Nikon Announces High-specification Lens for Consumer

RRP: £179.99/€270.00
Sales start date: End of November 2007

Nikon has added a new member to its renowned family of Nikkor lenses with the introduction of the AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR, a general-purpose lens developed specifically to cater for users of entry-level digital SLR cameras.

The compact, lightweight affordable lens incorporates a Silent Wave Motor for fast autofocus and Vibration Reduction for enhanced low-light performance. The versatile 3x zoom lens covers the widely-used and popular focal range of 27mm to 82.5mm when mounted on any DX-format Nikon digital SLR camera.

Nikon’s own VR (Vibration Reduction) system minimizes the image blur caused by camera shake, stabilising the image to allow shutter speeds of up to three stops slower than would be possible without VR (as determined in Nikon tests). The lens also enables dramatically sharper handheld shooting in low light conditions..A further major advantage of VR, when incorporated in the camera lens, is that it produces a stable viewfinder image. This makes the process of framing and composition more accurate and less tiring.

In line with Nikon’s unrelenting drive to achieve superior optical performance, Nikon’s developers set strict, new engineering standards for the new lens, seeking to achieve greater overall resolution. The result is a newly-developed optical system that has been optimised for use with Nikon DX-format digital SLR cameras. The lens incorporates a hybrid aspherical element to minimize distortion and Nikon’s Super Integrated Coating to ensure outstanding colour balance and reproduction with reduced ghosting.

Other features have been added to bring professional-grade performance to the enthusiast photographer. These include a compact Silent Wave Motor (SWM) that delivers fast, quiet autofocus operation and a seven-blade rounded diaphragm opening for rich, natural-looking out-of-focus backgrounds. Furthermore, the lens boasts a short closest-focus distance of 0.28 m/0.9 ft. throughout the entire zoom range.

With compact dimensions of Ø73 x 79.5 mm and a low weight of approx. 265 g, this new lens is easy to handle and carry.

The Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR has been created to cater for the needs of the many digital SLR camera users wanting maximum performance with a wide range of applications.

Nikon is pleased to announce the COOLPIX P5100

RRP: £299.99/ €450
Sales start date: September 2007

Nikon is pleased to announce the introduction of the COOLPIX P5100, the new flagship model in the Nikon COOLPIX lineup designed to satisfy photography enthusiasts. Built on a custom application of Nikon’s innovative EXPEED digital image processing concept and incorporating the precision optics of a NIKKOR lens, the COOLPIX P5100 is built to realise optimum performance and maximum image quality.

Class-leading imaging ability begins with a full 12.1 effective megapixels of sharp resolution and a new digital image processing engine that reproduce the finest details and subtlest tones with precision and clarity, even when taking advantage of sensitivity settings as high as ISO 3200*. It also includes the compositional freedom of the 3.5x Zoom-NIKKOR lens and compatibility with various converter lenses that further extend wide-angle and telephoto reach.

In addition to a variety of automated and scene modes, four advanced exposure modes offer both enthusiasts and more advanced photographers greater personal control over the camera. The Mode dial provides easy access to these modes, reflecting the COOLPIX P5100’s logical design that works to simplify and streamline operation for the photographer.

Optical lens shift VR (Vibration Reduction) image stabilisation counteracts the effects of camera shake in lower light or when shooting unsteady subjects to help achieve sharper results. Active full time also stabilises images displayed on the 2.5-inch high-resolution LCD monitor with wide 170-degree viewing angle for easier framing and more reassured shooting.

The quality-crafted body is made of solid magnesium alloy (Mg), featuring a quality finish, a comfortable grip covered in grid-pattern rubber, as well as an optical viewfinder to aid composition, particularly in brightly lit conditions. The built-in accessory shoe adds support for Nikon Speedlights and advanced i-TTL flash control.

*ISO 3200 is available only for image sizes of 5M (2592 x 1944) or smaller.

Nikon COOLPIX P5100 Feature Highlights

Superb image quality
Excellent imaging quality is a priority for the COOLPIX P5100, from the 12.1 effective megapixels of imaging power produced by its 1/1.72-inch RGB CCD and new digital image processing engine, to its powerful 3.5x Zoom-NIKKOR lens and optical lens shift VR.

Shooting modes that give the user greater control
Four exposure modes accessed via the Mode dial provide greater control over camera operation. Programmed Auto [P] mode automatically selects the optimal shutter and aperture settings. Shutter-priority Auto [S] lets the user select shutter speed, while the camera sets the optimal aperture. Aperture-priority Auto [A] offers 10-step manual control over the aperture setting to let the user decide depth of field, while the camera automatically adjusts the shutter speed. Manual [M] exposure mode provides full control over both the aperture and shutter speed settings.

Proven lens shift VR image stabilisation
Optical lens shift VR (Vibration Reduction) is field proven technology originally developed for interchangeable lenses used in Nikon SLR camera systems. The VR technology provides the ability to shoot at shutter speeds as much as three stops slower without blurring the image, as well as producing a smoother viewfinder image which aids composition. Nikon’s exclusive VR system also yields sharper results when shooting in low light when using the 3.5x Zoom-NIKKOR lens, or when reaching farther with an optional telephoto converter lens.

ISO 3200 capability
Extended light sensitivity range up to ISO 3200* adds the power to shoot more effectively in lower lighting conditions, or to capture fast moving subjects with outstanding clarity. And the new image processing engine produces clear results, even when shooting with high ISO settings.

The convenience of system expandability
Optional system components further expand the photographic possibilities of the COOLPIX P5100. Nikon’s 0.67x wide-angle converter (WC-E67) and 3.0x tele-converter (TC-E3ED) lenses are available to extend the range of the attached 3.5x Zoom-NIKKOR lens, while a built-in accessory shoe supports the use of Nikon’s advanced i-TTL flash control for external flashes, including the Speedlight SB-400, SB-600 and SB-800.

Nikon is pleased to announce the COOLPIX S510

RRP: £199.99/ €300
Pink: exclusive to John Lewis

Sales start date: September 2007

Nikon is pleased to announce the introduction of the COOLPIX S510, a new compact digital camera that not only features swift response and outstanding photographic performance, but also boasts the world’s smallest body* that exudes stylish beauty. Built on a custom application of Nikon’s innovative EXPEED digital image processing concept and incorporating the precision optics of a NIKKOR lens, the COOLPIX S510 is built to realise optimum performance and maximum image quality.

The COOLPIX S510 teams 8.1 effective megapixels of sharp resolution with the precision optics of its 3x Zoom-NIKKOR lens and a new digital image-processing engine that delivers a fast response and images that boast true-to-life colour. Extended light sensitivity up to ISO 2000 prevents blurred shots when shooting in lower light, or when capturing fast-moving subjects.

Quality materials and craftsmanship have created an elegant design housed in a stainless steel body. The solid metallic feel and a reassuringly firm hold immediately convey the functional beauty and classic camera appeal of the most compact digital camera among competing models*. The same dedication to engineering excellence is also found in the slim design of the Zoom- NIKKOR lens and its image-stabilising optical lens shift VR (Vibration Reduction) unit. In some regions, the COOLPIX S510 will be available in a choice of Silver, Pink and Urban Black body colours.

The S510 delivers the world’s fastest response**, boasting a power-up time of 0.7 seconds**, a practically imperceptible shutter release time lag of 0.005 seconds or less** and high-speed auto focus performance. In addition, a new image processing engine actualises faster and greatly improved Face-Priority AF.

* Among competing models with optical vibration reduction as of August 30, 2007 (according to research conducted by NIKON CORPORATION).
** Among competing 8 effective megapixel class compact digital cameras equipped with optical vibration reduction as of August 30, 2007 (according to research conducted by NIKON CORPORATION), when set to “Response priority” mode.

Note: Specifications, design, product name, standard accessories, and release schedule may differ by country or area.

Nikon COOLPIX S510 Feature Highlights

Proven lens shift VR image stabilisation
Field proven technology originally developed for interchangeable lenses used in Nikon SLR camera systems, optical lens shift VR image stabilisation counteracts the effects of camera shake in lower light or when shooting to help achieve sharper results. Active full time, VR also stabilises images displayed on the 2.5-inch high-resolution LCD monitor for easier framing and more reassured shooting.

ISO 2000 capability for extended shooting range
The COOLPIX S510 makes it easier to take great-looking pictures in lower lighting conditions or to capture fast moving subjects with outstanding clarity by offering manual sensitivity settings as high as ISO 2000. And the new image processing engine preserves high image quality even when shooting with high ISO settings, thanks to enhanced noise reduction and an improved signal-to-noise ratio. Also available is AUTO ISO control, which automatically selects the optimal sensitivity for the shot across a range between ISO 64 and ISO 1000, and High-Sensitivity mode which minimises blur by automatically selecting optimal light sensitivity from a range between ISO 64 and 1600.

Large 2.5-inch LCD monitor for quality viewing and menu operation
The COOLPIX S510 has a high quality 2.5-inch LCD monitor featuring 230,000 dots of high resolution, a wide viewing angle of 160 degrees, anti-reflection coating for better display in bright situations, and a new acrylic panel that prevents scratches and fingerprints.

Nikon is pleased to announce the COOLPIX L15

January 12, 2008

Nikon is pleased to announce the COOLPIX L15

Silver exclusive to DSG
Black exclusive to Jessops
Sales start date: September 2007

Nikon is pleased to announce the introduction of the COOLPIX L15, a quality compact digital camera that combines high performance with operating ease and the support of advanced features, including optical lens shift VR (Vibration Reduction) image stabilisation. Built on a custom application of Nikon’s innovative EXPEED digital image processing concept and incorporating the precision optics of a NIKKOR lens, the COOLPIX L15 is built to realise optimum performance and maximum image quality.

Offering the full imaging potential of 8.0 effective megapixels, the COOLPIX L15 captures true-to-life colour with enough fine details to leave plenty of creative freedom to crop or produce beautiful enlargements. The precision optics of a 3x Zoom-NIKKOR lens covers the highly practical range of 35-105mm (35mm equivalent) ensuring capture of various scenes, from panoramic vistas to close-up portraits.

Optical lens shift VR image stabilisation counteracts the effects of camera shake in lower light or when shooting unsteady subjects to help achieve sharper results. Active full time, VR also stabilises images displayed on the 2.8-inch high-resolution LCD monitor for easier framing and more reassured shooting.

Intuitive operation and dedicated controls ensure faultless command over the performance features of the COOLPIX L15. This includes the dedicated buttons on the top of the body for switching between shooting and playback modes. The expansive 2.8-inch high-resolution LCD monitor offers a bright and large image that makes it a pleasure to view, even out in the sun. And the no-nonsense design of the body itself assures a solid grip combined with the inviting balance of flowing surfaces contrasted by sharp edge lines. The COOLPIX L15 will be available in three body colours*: Silver, Black and Pink.

*Colour availability may vary according to region.

Note: Specifications, design, product name, standard accessories, and release schedule may differ by country or area.

Nikon COOLPIX L15 Feature Highlights

Proven optical lens shift VR image stabilisation
Field proven technology originally developed for interchangeable lenses used in Nikon SLR camera systems, optical lens shift VR image stabilisation provides the ability to shoot at shutter speeds as much as three steps slower without blurring the image, whilst also producing a smoother image when shooting.

New Easy Auto mode and scene modes for carefree shooting
Easy Auto mode makes it easier to turn on the camera and shoot without worrying about settings. Easy access to 15 different scene modes and three movie modes also ensures shooting that is tuned to give the best results to match the moment.

Three Unique Nikon Image Innovations
The COOLPIX L15 features a selection of three innovative functions that provide the ability to actually improve the quality of images within the camera. Face-priority AF* automatically finds, then focuses on people’s faces for crisp, clear results time after time. In-Camera Red-Eye Fix automatically compensates to help eradicate traces of the annoying red-eye effect that can sometimes be encountered during flash photography. And D-Lighting can be applied to improve underexposed images or shots taken with too much backlight. D-Lighting automatically creates a copy of the image with detail added where necessary, but with well-exposed areas left completely untouched.
* Face recognition capability may be limited in some shooting conditions.

AA-size batteries for carefree shooting, anywhere
The COOLPIX L15 runs on AA-size batteries, a standard battery size available in virtually every corner of the world. This means carefree shooting anywhere, free of any worries about running out of power or needing to recharge when that special moment arises.

ISO 1000 capability for better pictures in lower light
Making it easier to take great-looking pictures in lower lighting conditions, or to capture fast moving subjects with outstanding clarity, the COOLPIX L15 accurately measures available light to automatically select the optimal sensitivity setting for the shot between the range of ISO 64 to as high as ISO 1000.
